President's Message
Delcy Wells
Well, here we are yet again with another September upon us! I know all of your offices are terribly busy helping your schools to get their students organized for the upcoming year not to mention staffing all of the positions necessary to educate and support our students. Hopefully, you can make a brief moment to review this messageas we have some very important events scheduled that we want to make everyone aware of so that you can pencil in the dates now!
With the election of the new Board, it was decided that we really needed to have one meeting to review where we have been and where we are going. I am not sure how many of our current members are aware of our purpose statement, so here it is:
“…TO PROMOTE THE GROWTH OF KNOWLEDGE IN SCHOOL PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATION TOWARD A GOAL OF MORE EFFECTIVE PERSONNEL PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES IN EDUCATION.”
In light of our purpose, the Board had much discussion about what we do to serve our members and fulfill this purpose. In so doing, we came up with several key objectives we want to pursue as follows:
- Continue to offer the Annual Conference as it is well-attended, which means our members find value in it and it also offers the all-important opportunity for human resources practitioners to network with each other.
- Continue to offer the Job Fair, as many of our members were very positive about the first one we offered and asked for more.
- Continue to offer One-Day Institutes as needed and/or as requested by our members.
- Communicate to the K-12 sector about our organization, particularly amongst those who practice human resources but whose roles are also dedicated to education, such as Principals and Vice Principals.
- Coordinate with other organizations offering human resource services to ensure that we do not duplicate efforts, thereby adding better value for everyone in our sector. For example, the British Columbia School Employers’ Association, the British Columbia Principals’ and Vice Principals’ Association, and any other organizations in our sector who have similar objectives to ours.
To this end, we have had a meeting with both organizations to begin initial discussions about how we can work together. More on that as developments arise!!
To start, the dates of our events are now on the BCPSEA web site so that everyone in our sector can see what we are doing, which we hope will both encourage more membership and more attendance at our events, as well as further our ability to meet our purpose as stated above.
WHEW!! We have been pretty busy now that I look back! If any of you have feedback about the above-noted objectives, please contact us at BCSPA@shaw.ca with your comments.
Meanwhile, hang in there…..September will be over before you know it!
